The program for biodiversity management, which will be funded at 15 million euros over five years by the 10th EDF intends to accelerate regional integration to ensure more effective management of biodiversity and community and improve the living conditions populations in the region.

The development of agriculture that is much more oriented towards the "protection and regeneration" of the natural environment is a priority in the region. That is the reason why the IOC has launched in December 2010, for a period of 30 months, a regional initiative aiming at adaptation of smallholder agriculture to climate change in the islands of the Indian Ocean through the dissemination of agroecology (IRACC). This initiative is funded by the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) amounting to 750 000 USD dollars.

Through this program e-PRPV, Reunion is involved in the "Regional Climate Change and Agroecology Initiative"(IRACC), administered by the Indian Ocean Commission and funded by the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD).

The regional cooperation projects run by the state and the Réunion local government operate in many different fields, including culture, maritime risks (prevention, maritime pollution, fishing quota enforcement), education (the Indian Ocean educational board), economic development, health, agriculture, environment, sustainable development, vocational training and safety. 

On March 27, 2008, the European Commission approved the Operational Programme for Territorial Cooperation (POCT) for the Indian Ocean for the period 2007-2013. This program provides funding for regional cooperation projects carried out by Reunion, in partnership with other countries in the Indian Ocean Commission (Comoros, Madagascar, Mauritius, and Seychelles).

The International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), a United Nations specialized agency, is an international financial institution established in 1977 following the 1974 World Food Conference, organized in response to the food crises of the 1970s.

The IOC is an intergovernmental organization established in 1984. The Commission is based on solidarity and common destiny among its five member states (Comoros, France / Reunion, Madagascar, Mauritius, Seychelles). Its aims include organizing regional cooperation projects to protect populations, improve their living conditions and conserve natural resources.
